MATERIALS

Our philosophy is to encourage waste reduction and environmental preservation. We use natural and environmentally conscious textiles whenever possible.

HEMP - Hemp is one of the strongest, most durable of all natural fibres. Garments made from hemp will keep their shape rather than stretching out and they get softer as they age. Hemp is an extremely fast growing crop that produces much higher yields per acre than cotton, flax (linen) and many other plants. The roots anchor and protect soil from runoff and the leaves shed all throughout the growing season acting as a fertilizer and leaving the soil in a rich and healthy condition.  Hemp requires few pesticides and no herbicides to grow.

LINEN - Linen comes from the flax plant. Flax grows naturally and requires less water and fewer pesticides than cotton, making it gentler on the environment. Flax is a natural fibre that is biodegradable and can be recycled into paper and insulation materials.  And additionally, the entire plant can be used, leaving no waste. Flax is easy to incorporate into modern crop rotation cycles which prevents soil depletion. Very little energy is required to process flax and the yarns made from flax fibres are inherently strong reducing the need for starching during fabric production.

ORGANIC COTTON - One of the most popular textile fibres, cotton is soft to the touch, breathable, absorbent and easy to care for.  Conventional cotton uses more insecticides than any other crop the world over with GMO cotton contributing to decreased biodiversity. We prefer to use non genetically modified cotton grown without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.  Our cotton is certified to the Organic Exchange 100 Standard.

RECLAIMED VINTAGE - Buttons are resurrected from old collections and vintage clothes and reused as one of a kind accents on many of our garments and accessories.

RECYCLED COTTON - Recycled cotton is made by recycling textile off cuts (small pieces leftover from garment cutting that would otherwise be discarded). In addition to recycling, the colours of the original fabric are retained, thus eliminated the need for dying. The recycled cotton fabric we use is certified to the Oeko-Tex 100 standard.

REGENERATED WOOL - Regenerated wool fabric is produced by recycling old clothing and textile off cuts (small pieces leftover from garment cutting). The regenerated wool fabric we use is certified to the Oeko-Tex 100 standard.

TENCEL - Tencel is the ultra soft, smooth ecologically friendly cousin to conventional rayon. It is manufactured from raw wood pulp, harvested from forest plantations that engage in sustainable agricultural practices. The cultivated forest land is not suitable for agricultural use. The solvent used to process the fibre is recycled by almost 100% in the closed loop process.
